Humanitarian needs and war-fighting needs at high levels.
In a “Dear Colleague” letter, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer informed members of congress that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to address the Congress on Wednesday, March 16th at 9:00 a.m.
Speaker Pelosi and Senator Schumer praised the bravery of the Ukrainian people as they continue to fight back against Russia’s invasion and reiterated the United States’ support of Ukraine as Russian President Vladimir Putin refuses to retreat despite increasing sanctions from the West.
The humanitarian situation on the ground in Ukraine, particularly in besieged population centers like Mariupol, is becoming increasingly dire as Russian troops continue their assault. Ceasefire violations have been reported, meaning there is no safe corridor for evacuations in many areas. Attacks on critical infrastructure have cut heat, electricity, and water in some places. Critical supplies are also becoming scarce.
Ukraine has asked for a “no-fly zone,” while NATO deliberates how to provide more support to Kyiv’s leadership without risking a world war. Russia has warned the West against sending arms to Ukraine but, in order for Ukraine to continue its resistance, it will need more assistance.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Speaker Pelosi to seek the Lord’s guidance as she heads the House of Representatives.
- For wisdom for U.S. officials as they make decisions that support Ukraine against Russia.
- For the people of Ukraine who are enduring the conflict and violence.
